Sorry Gary. Donny Takes The Big One

To recap the week, well, it was about as slow as I've been in updating the blog.

Donny was the big doe slayer this week. He put two in the shed with the biggest coming in at 122 lbs. That makes him the winner of our contest this year. Donny will be coming back at half price next year. Donny had some tough luck in the stand this week. He just wasn't able to get that big buck in close this year. He did see lots of deer (and a few other hunters) and had a pretty good time.

Rick took a smaller doe this week after losing one to a short shot. He did see a few bucks one of which was a shooter for sure. He was a hoot to have in camp this week. Not much bothered him and he stayed in on all of the busting going on. Looking forward to having him in camp again.

Wayne came through again this year by putting the only button of the season in the shed Saturday morning. Wouldn't be much of a season if we couldn't count on Wayne for that one. Wayne had a tough week finding deer. Didn't seem to matter where he went, the deer just moved away from him. Gotta be his year next year.

Jon put a doe in the shed this week as well but she just didn't measure up to Donny's. He had kind of a tough break as well since the doe went bad after laying over night. She should've been OK given the nights temps but no dice. Jon did get a shot at a good buck but didn't hit it. Jon is off to Kansas now to hunt the big ones out there.

What is there to say about Scott? Scott had deer all around him all week but couldn't seem to get a shot in. He suffered a tragic release failure while trying to get a shot in and things just never fell into place for him. He missed another shot on Saturday morning due to the same release problem. Bet he brings a new one next year.

Trey was the big scorer of the week tagging out in 15 minutes on Saturday morning. There I was hanging from the top of a mighty oak taking down his nose bleed stand when my cell phone rings. "Hey, man. I just tagged out." What am I suppose to do from there? He'd already found both of them and thanks to Lance and a 4-wheeler we had both back to camp in short order. Trey took that nice buck that you saw posted last night. For those of you that remember Doc from last year, Trey was his replacement for this year's hunt. Trey stayed patient all week and was careful to identify the differences between the buttons and the does.

Weather was a big factor this last week. Temperatures were high and the wind howled almost all week. Seemed like most of the movement was taking place at night Guess we'll try it again next year.

Gun hunters will be coming in the end of the week. So will the great weather. Highs in the mid forties and lows in the twenties for the whole weekend. Here's hoping that will get us a chance at some of those big bucks still walking around.

That's it for the bow hunters this year but we're not done huntin' yet.

I'll see you back at the lodge.

Chris
